American Tree Experts was founded in 1934 by two brothers, Francis and Alexander Rombough. Hazel Rombough, wife of Francis, ran the business while her husband was in Europe during World War II. The company has served the residents of New Jersey for over 70 years. Today, it is still owned and operated by the Rombough family.
When the company started, chain saws and cranes were nonexistent. All tree work was done by hand and all limbs were let down with ropes! To climb a tree, ropes were thrown to the first limb, then to the second and so on until the tree surgeons reached the top. American Tree Experts specialized in cavity work in which concrete filling was applied to the interior of trees (see photo), and in cabling weak trees together to prevent them from splitting. During a wind or ice storm, Jack Rombough and his brother would be out day and night getting the job done. They lacked today's specialized power equipment.
We prune and do tree work according to the standards put down by the international society of arboriculture and the NJ board of certified tree experts.
We (the sellers/owners) are the ones who show up to do the work to keep from compromising quality.
We take into account the tree's health as a whole and do not just treat symptoms (holistic tree care).
We keep up to date on the latest research in the field, making this knowledge (and products) available to the customer.

Francis Rombough passed away on April 5, 2004, but his legacy lives on in the day to day activities of the company, while, his sons, Richard and Ronald, and grandsons, Richard Kurt, Brian and Glenn continue to uphold the American Tree Experts' tradition of professional and courteous service.
